It’s been a long time for those of you who are concerned. Maybe even over a few years since I’ve had Tom and Kaj update the site for me. I get a bit lazy at times so please forgive me. Over the past two years so much has happened. I recorded a new CD in Budapest which I have not officially released, left the French label Dixiefrog and just ventured out here in Europe on my own once again. Free again yes from the hassle to appease record labels, agents and promoters and also from just the grind of hotels and bad food. Plus the music business is taking a big hit right now with a huge decline in CD sales. When distributors begin to start closing down it’s time to take heed.
As artists we have no choice but to become more involved with what has and been happening via the net. You’re seeing bigger name acts and musicians now playing venues they would have never have performed five years ago.
Within the next year an a half you will see 5.1 surround sound developed for the portable phone which is where much music is all ready and heading. Technology is moving faster then most musicians can keep up with. So it’s up to us to find a way to deliver our music to the ones who are interested. (Or just go fishing) Yes!!!!!
Meanwhile I’ve just taken myself to the out backs of the Artic circle and into the forests to write a book and some music. I guess this is what happens when one becomes old. Want to know what night after night of performances or recording CD after CD takes out of you? Go get a recent picture of what Keith Richards looks like. You’ll get the idea!
Hey! Don’t get me wrong! I’ve always liked the Stones plus they are true icons and I’ve rocked many a nights hanging with some of their classic tunes. But? I like fishing with my friends or hanging at the local pub and having a beer without having to explain where my next tour is and not having to listen to a night of conversation that exists solely of ones music. Sometimes we musicians take our trade just a bit too serious as though we have discovered the next best thing since sliced bread if you know what I mean!
I take a good look at some of the acts who are constantly touring and wonder where and when does it all end or even slow down? Smoked filled bars, arrogant agents and promoters along with the occasional egotistical backup musician you’ve regretfully hired. It all eventually takes it toll on one.
My motto has always been “I never wanted to become a prisoner of something I love to do”. So the chains have been broken once again. A few years older and a little more financially poor but a whole lot more spiritually wealthy!
Now to backtrack a bit. I will be setting it up so that those of you who are even a bit interested in the new CD I recorded back in 2005 will be able to download it in it’s total or song by song. Also if you want to view a performance of myself just go to “Youtube”
Well my many thanks to all for visiting and staying in touch. My apologies to those that maybe I offend with my personal views.
It's so easy to find the wrong in people’s opinions, but if we can agree to disagree then perhaps we have found a common ground from where we may start.
Two people who I can never exclude and will always be grateful to for this Website are Tom and Kaj. Without them it would not exist.
What I have learned is that "music is not my life, but that all of life is my music."
Links
I’m not one to post many links toward music as there are so many great sites out there to research and look at and it would take up many pages on the site, but occasionally I will.
Guitars that I do like and play are Gibson, Epiphone and Fender and you can find their sites on the web. Personally I find that they are all great guitars but a bit way to expensive for the average player. Epiphone and Fender do put out a few that are within reason for the layman. Just remember they are all just pieces of wood. It’s the human being that brings it life. I’ve seen and played some very nice guitars from the local junk shop. If you happen to have one, hold on to it!
Anyone can contact me at-- info@TinoGonzales.com to discuss, disagree, or inquire about some of the things that I post on the site, or just to say hi! Please just don’t be too nasty, as Tom and Kaj will not pass it on to me. Plus, it really is a waste of energy.
CDs can also be acquired in the States from the http://www.watershed-arts.com. In Europe you can get them through http://www.bluesweb.com or almost any record store, as they are distributed in most countries here.
If you are a promoter and are interested in booking information contact me through info@TinoGonzales.com and I will pass it on to my agents.
Well I hope you enjoy the site and maybe get something out of it. Maybe we'll sooner or later be in contact.
May you all have good health and peas!
Tino
